Samoan Documentary Launched

28 Apr 2015

A new Samoan language documentary highlighting the issues facing Porirua Harbour and its catchment has been produced by the Porirua Harbour Trust and was officially launched by Mayor Nick Leggett last night.

The ‘Home to Harbour: Maota i le Talafatai’ documentary is the Samoan extension of the 2011 Living Waters documentaries and is a learning tool to address and strengthen knowledge gaps in the Samoan community.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor Leggett said the documentary was an important tool in the work to restore and protect the harbour and its catchments, which is actively managed by the Council through the Porirua Harbour and Catchment Strategy and Action Plan.

“These waterways are at the heart of Porirua City and we all need to play our part in protecting them. We have a big Samoan population within Porirua and this new documentary helps reach that community in their own language with messages that will resonate and engage them.”
