The clean up of the Porirua Stream delta at low tide on Saturday shows that residents in Porirua are getting the message about rubbish. The number of tyres, road cones and other large rubbish items is reducing. A survey of the Porirua stream delta from the railway line across to the waka ama sheds shows that their are between 70 – 80 tyres in the tidal zone signifcantly less than the 172 removed last year.
The clean up over the weekend, led by Keep Porirua Beautiful was hampered by the poor weather but does highlight the opportunity for a sports or community group to assist with the tyre removal.
